SQL Server 2012 Data Mining Add-Ins for Excel 2010 – Setup

  1. Download SQL Server 2012 Data Mining Add-ins for Office 2010
  2. Don’t worry about the blog title… works w/ 2008 too.
  3. Unless you have 64-bit Office you’ll need the 32 bit version of the program.  ENU\x86\SQL_AS_DMAddin.msi; not: ENU\x64\SQL_AS_DMAddin.msi
  4. Make sure to install all features.  It doesn’t do that by default.
  5. Install
  6. Launch All Programs, Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Data Mining Add-ins, Getting Started
  7. If you don’t already have SQL Server 2012 you can download an evaluation version from the wizard; otherwise, choose the option: ‘Use an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (or later) Analysis Services that I administer.’
  8. Click Next
  9. Run the Server configuration utility by clicking the link in the wizard.
  10. Click Next
  11. Enter the server name (or use the default, localhost.)
  12. Leave the checkbox checked to ‘Allow creating temporary mining models’; unless for some reason you don’t.
  13. Click Next
  14. Leave the default to Create New database ‘DMAddinsDB’ unless you want to use an existing database.
  15. Click Next
  16. Leave the checkbox checked to ‘Give add-in users database administration permissions.’  You user id should be listed in the box ‘Specify users or groups to add.’
  17. Click Finish, Close, Finish.  Close.
  18. Excel should launch with the Sample workbook open.  At the top in the ribbon, Click the Analyze tab under the Table Tools section.
  19. Click the <No Connection> button in the Connection Group.

  21. Click New, Enter Localhost in the server name (or  your server name) and then select the DmAddinsDB from the Catalog name dropdown.

  23. Click Ok, Close.

That’s it!  We’re ready to begin mining data.
